

The movie starred Halle Berry as Dandridge, the first Black woman to be nominated for a best actress Oscar. The following year she penned the HBO TV movie Introducing Dorothy Dandridge. In 1998 Rhimes wrote and directed the short film Blossoms and Veils. Rhimes initially wanted to write novels but ultimately attended film school at the University of Southern California. She graduated from Dartmouth College in New Hampshire in 1991. Shonda Lynn Rhimes was born on January 13, 1970, in Chicago, Illinois. With Grey’s Anatomy, she became the first African American woman to create a top television series on a broadcast network and to serve as its executive producer. Her shows include Grey’s Anatomy, which began in 2005, and Scandal, which aired from 2012 to 2018. American writer and producer Shonda Rhimes was best known for creating several popular television series in the early 21st century.
